Nations of the world are about to embrace a new set of goals to guide development for the next 15 years.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, set by agreement of the 193 member states
of the United Nations on Aug. 3, are ambitious: eradicate poverty and hunger;
improve people’s health and economic well-being; expand education and gender
equity; broaden access to clean water and energy; promote sustainable economic
development and use of resources; protect the environment and curb climate
change.
What will it take to achieve these? Finding solutions is the
focus of the International Conference on Sustainable Development:
“Implementing the SDGs: Getting Started,” to be held Sept. 23-24 at Columbia
University. The new goals will be formally adopted by the United Nations
immediately following the conference.
Speakers at the conference,
sponsored by The Earth Institute, will include heads of state, key officials
from the UN, business leaders and international development officials. Find out

Esta conferência contribui para consolidarmos o que temos vindo progressivamente a concluir: hoje podemos dividir o mundo - Estados, Organizações, Pessoas, ... - em dois lados.
